PM wins UN Visionary Award

NEW YORK: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been awarded with the ‘South-South Cooperation Visionary Award' of the United Nations (UN).

Prime Minister’s son, and also her ICT adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy, on behalf of his mother, received the award on Friday.

The award was handed over at a colorful function at the closing ceremony of ‘2014 Global South-South Development EXPO’ held in Washington DC.

Joy, after receiving the award, said that it is the recognition of Bangladesh’s development led by Sheikh Hasina’s administration.

It was possible for ensuring maximum uses of the limited resources, Joy added while expressing his immediate reactions.

Bangladesh’s Permanent Representative to the UN, and also the President of High Level Committee of ‘2014 Global South-South Development EXPO’, AK Abdul Momen chaired the closing ceremony of the event.

Bangladesh Ambassador to US Mohammad Ziauddin, Economic Relation Department’s Additional Secretary Asadul Islam and the Deputy Chief of Bangladesh Embassy in the USA Mohammad Abdul Muhit, among others, were present at the program.

However, the prize giving ceremony was also attended by representatives of different participating countries along with United Nations high officials, a number of diplomats and local media persons.

Sheikh Hasina has been awarded for her contribution to the development of digitalization and expanding education in Bangladesh.

Besides the Bangladesh PM, six more world leaders and countries also got the award.

They include South Korea, Malaysia, Qatar, Organization of American States and Latin American South-South Countries Association.
