DHAKA: A team of Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) quizzed former energy adviser Mahmudur Rahman on Sunday in a case relating to taking money over Niko Resources contract in Bangladesh.
Mahmudur, also Bengali daily Amar Desh editor, was taken to the Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court in the morning. He was quizzed there in presence of Metropolitan Magistrate Rezaul Karim from 3:00pm to 4:10pm.
Mahmudur’s lawyer Advocate Tajul Islam, however, did not speak to media after questioning.
A RCMP team is now staying here to investigate into graft allegation over Niko-Bapex deal in 2003 in Bangladesh.
Earlier, the Canadian authorities sent a MLAR (Mutual Legal Assistance Request) to attorney general (AG) Mahbubey Alam requesting to take measures regarding the investigation.
As the AG sought permission from the CMM court, the court opened a miscellaneous case and granted quizzing to Mahamudur.
