8 remanded in RU teacher murder case

RAJSHAHI: A Rajshahi court on Monday placed eight people on a one-day remand in a case of Rajshahi University (RU) teacher Professor AKM Shafiul Islam killing.

Judge Sharmin Akhter of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court-3 passed the remand order after police produced them before the court with a seven-day remand plea.

The accused are Principal Humayun Kabir of Binodpur Islamia College adjacent to Rajshahi University, college teacher Fazlul Haque, paramedic of Choddapai area Mosharraf Hossain and residents of the same area Jinnat Ali, Saifuddin, Rezaul Karim, Sagor and Arif.

On November 19, the court granted two-day remand of the 11 arrestees for their alleged involvement in the case.

Police produced them before the court on November 23. However, the court fixed Monday for the hearing.

On November 15, miscreants killed RU Sociology Department teacher Professor Dr AKM Shafiul Islam in front of his residence in Choddapai area of Rajshahi.
