NETROKONA: A Netrokona court on Tuesday awarded death penalty to four persons for their involvement in killing of a man in the district.

District and Sessions Judge Dr AKM Abul Kashem, also judge of Woman and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal, passed the order around 1:00pm.

The convicts are Saidul Islam and Al Amin, son of Samsuddin, Abdur Rashid, son of Abdul Jabbar, Rafiqul Islam, son of late Nur Hossain of Charlengura village in Durgapur upazila.

However, lawyers Nurul Kabir Rubel, Abdul Hamid and Ajay Banik Subhash moved for the defendants.

Public Prosecutor (PP) of Netrokona GM Khan said Imon, son of Badal Ahmed of the village, was kidnapped on August 19 in 2013 while he was going to school.

Later, the kidnappers demanded Tk 100,000 and gold ornaments as ransom.

On August 20, victim’s mother, Nurnahar, filed a case with Woman and Children Repression Prevention Act in this regard.

Then, police arrested Saidul and according to his statement the law enforcers recovered Imon’s body from Lata Pahar area near Indian border and arrested the others.

After investigation, police submitted the charge-sheet before the court on October 22.
