HC questions Mosharraf’s position

DHAKA: The High Court on Tuesday issued a rule upon the government to explain within three weeks how Mosharraf Hossain became the minister for Housing and Public Works despite holding an office of profitable post in a company.

An HC bench comprising Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice M Ashraful Kamal gave the ruling after a hearing a writ petition.

The court said Mosharraf Hossain is performing duty as the minister in spite of being chairman of hotel company Peninsula Chittagong Limited which is violation of the constitution.

Cabinet secretary and Joint Stock Companies and Farms registrar were made respondents to the rule.

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam and Deputy Attorney General Motahar Hosaain moved for the state in the hearing.

Lawyer ZI Khan Panna filed the writ on November 22.
