DHAKA: The journalist community reacted with shock and sadness at the demise of eminent journalist Zaglul Ahmed Chowdhury, who died in a bus accident on Saturday night.
President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and journalists expressed deep shock at the death of Zaglul Ahmed Chowdhury, former chief editor and managing director of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS).
The President, in a condolence message, expressed his deep shock at the death. He also prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
In another massage, the premier expressed her deep condolence at the death recalling Zaglul’s invaluable contribution to the country.
"The country has lost a bright star of journalism arena, while I have personally lost a classmate and true well-wisher in his death," she said.
The premier prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the family.
Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) president Monjurul Ahsan Bulbul and secretary general Abdul Jalil Bhuiyan and Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) president Altaf Mahmud and general secretary Quddus Afrad, in separate massages, expressed their shock at the death and conveyed deep sympathy to the family members.
Saudi Arabia Expatriates Journalists’ Forum and expatriates journalists at Sydney also issued condolence massage at Zaglul’s death.
Meanwhile, member of Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) will wear black badge and hoist black flags atop throughout Sunday to condole the death of Zaglul, who was a founding member of DRU.
Zaglul, former managing director and chief editor of national news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), died in a road accident in the city’s Kawran bazaar intersection Saturday night.
