DHAKA: Inqilab Special Correspondent Sakhawat Hossain Badsha and Independent TV senior reporter Elias Hossain have been elected as president and general secretary of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU).

DRU chief election commissioner Samakal’s editor Golam Sarwar declared the results in the evening.

Rafiqul Islam Azad of Independent Newspaper elected as vice-president, the Daily star’s Ferdous Mubarak as joint general secretary, Alokito Bangladesh’s Riaz Chowdhury as organizational secretary, Moinuddin Khan as publicity and publication secretary.

Of the 20-member DRU executive committee, 13 were elected uncontested.

In DRU election for 2015, Ashraful Islam re-elected as finance secretary, Azizul Parvej as cultural secretary, Badrul Alam Chowdhury Khokon as sports secretary uncontested.

However, Prime News’s Mehid Azad Masum elected uncontested as office secretary, Ayrin Niazi Manna as women secretary and Aminul Haque Bhuiyan as hospitality secretary.

Dhaka Times’s Habibur Rahman, the report24.com’s Sajida Islam Parul, ABC Radio’s Shahnaj Sharmin, the Daily Manabkontho’s Haralal Roy Sagar, RTV’s Farukh Khan, Osman Gani Babul and Sangram’s Kamal Uddin Suman have been selected as a member in executive committee.

A total of 1,303 people cast their votes in the election, from 9:00am to 5:00pm Sunday.
