BARISAL: At least 30 students and three police personnel were injured in a clash at Institute of Health Technology (IHT) in the city on Wednesday.

However, the clash took place in front of Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital (SBMCH) on Banda Road around 10:30am.

Witnesses said getting permission from the administration, the IHT students and pharmacy student association members took position in front of the hospital to press home their 10-point demands.

They also chanted slogan for the up-gradation of their post to class-2.

At one stage, the students were staging demonstration blocking the adjacent road hampering vehicular movement.

Kotwali Thana Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sakhawat Hossain said the students started throwing brickbats and later locked into chases and counter chases with police when the law enforcers tried to disperse them from the road.

The students claimed that the police obstructed their procession while they were returning from their position on request of their college principal Dr Kumud Ranjan Bala and locked into the clash, leaving 33 injured.

Traffic inspector Kamrul, Kotwali Thana constable Bellal and other injured were given treatment in SBMCH.
