DHAKA: Director of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) Brigadier General Mustafizur Rahman on Friday expressed his sorrows for pronouncing a female patient as dead though she was alive.
Brigadier General Mustafizur Rahman was talking to banglanews in the morning.
He said, “In the morning I visited the patient and ordered to conduct USG, ECG, X’Ray and other tests.”
A four-member probe committee, led by Professor Dr. Enamul Karim of Medicine department, has been formed to investigate the whole gamut of the episode.
The committee has been asked to submit their findings within three days, he added.
“As soon as we get the report we would take actions against the responsible doctor”, the director added.
The director has become very much shocked that led him to say sorry.
On Thursday (December 4) afternoon, the physicians of DMCH declared an under treatment female patient as ‘dead’. They also issued a death certificate of that patient.
The morgue people came to take her body for post-mortem. But suddenly, the patient woke up after three hours making everybody surprised. This created a huge hue and cry in the whole hospital compound.
It was learnt that on December 2 an unidentified female patient, was admitted in ward no-802 under unit 7 of DMCH new building.
The patient was declared dead by the duty doctors at 2:00pm on Thursday after two days’ treatment.
The ward boy, Belal, went to Morgue office with the death certificate. The official Nur-e-Alam Babu of morgue office sent one Aziz to bring the body.
When Aziz went there along with Belal, they saw that the dead patient was moving her limbs. This created hue and cry in the ward as well as in the hospital.
However, clever Belal took away the death declaration papers and went to the duty doctors.
Being informed, the banglanews correspondent rushed to the concerned ward of DMCH.
The concerned female doctor seeking anonymity told banglanews that when they declared the patient dead, the patient had no heart bit.
In reply to a question of banglanews correspondent, the doctor said that the condition of the patient has become such due to malnutrition.
When asked that whether the patient is still alive or not, the doctor replied in affirmative and ordered ward boy to push saline. Later, in presence of banglanews correspondent doctors gave her saline setting cannula needle in her vein.
At the time of going through her file it was found that the woman was admitted under the Care Of Director of DMCH.
Mohammad Sohel, clinical assistant (assistant registrar) of the unit, told banglanews that, “The patient is now fine, but, this is absolutely a misunderstanding” adding that they have been investigating the matter.
