DHAKA: At least seven people were injured, and six of them are in critical condition after a cylinder of a covered-van of a readymade garment factory blasted in Gazipur’s Chandra Palli Bidyut area on Saturday.

Sources told banglanews that the incident took place around 11:00am at the premises of Ahsan Composite Limited of that area when a covered-van of Shafi Processing Industry Limited went there to collect yarn.

The injured are Amanullah, 38, marketing supervisor of Shafi Processing Industry Limited, Ali Azgar, 40, driver of the covered-van, Abdul Barik, 36, worker of Ahsan Composite Limited along with four more workers of the same factory, Mohammad Apon, 30, Abdul Jalil, 30, Haider Ali, 40 and Belal Hossain, 45.

They were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), sources added.

DMCH burn unit duty-doctor Rahima Khanam said that condition of six of the injured is critical.

He added: “Most of the victims sustained burn injuries on their faces. They are in critical condition.”
