PABNA: A “mentally sick” youth chopped his minor son dead and then he tried to commit suicide at Dholeshwar village in Atgharia upazila of the district on Saturday afternoon.

The one and a half years old ill-fated boy was identified as Sohag, son of Mohidul Islam, of the area.

Police sources said that Mohidul chopped his son dead in the area around 4:30pm. Later, he tried to commit suicide with lethal weapon.

However, his family members rescued the man and sent him to Pabna Medical College Hospital in a critical condition.

On information, police rushed to the spot and rescued the body. They sent the body to Pabna Mdical College Hospial morgue for autopsy.

Atgharia Thana Officer-in-Charge Lenin Alamgir confirmed the matter to banglanews.
