Bangladesh not eligible for DV program

DHAKA: The Diversity Visa (DV) Program, also known as DV Lottery, ended for Bangladeshi citizens in September 2012, says a press release issued by US Embassy to Dhaka.

The release said, “US law states that no DVs shall be provided for countries from which there were more than a total of 50,000 immigrants during the previous five years.”

It further said Bangladesh sent more than 50,000 immigrants to the US over the past five years, and as a result, is no longer eligible for the Diversity Visa Program.

The US asked the citizens of Bangladesh not to attempt to enroll in any kind of DV lottery program as it no longer exists for them.

The release forewarned Bangladesh citizens about the emails that claimed they have won the US visa lottery or invitations to enroll in the lottery terming them as “fraudulent and are not sent by the US Embassy”.

The release also said, “The US government does not communicate via email or telephone” with an enrollee who has won the visa lottery.

The release asked Bangladesh citizens to visit the website http://travel.state.gov for more information about travel to the US.
