DHAKA: Elections of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) are likely to be held in early 2015.

Sources said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday asked the authorities concerned to hold the elections by this winter.

The premier, also ruling Awami League president, made the directive at a cabinet meeting held in secretariat in city.

Sheikh Hasina told the authorities concerned to take necessary steps for holding the elections after denying the extension of the corporation administrators’ tenure from six months to one year.

However, the cabinet also sent back the Local Government (City Corporation) (Amended) Ordinance, 2014 for scrutinizing.

Confirming the matter, cabinet secretary M Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan said that following the cabinet decision, the ordinance has been sent back to the local government division.

On the other hand, regarding the city corporation elections, local government division secretary Manjur Hossain said that it would depend on the schedule oft the Election Commission (EC).
