DHAKA: December 9 is being observed as International Anti-Corruption Day since 2003 after a declaration by the United Nations (UN).
With the theme “Jagroto Bibek, Durjoy Tarunya, Durniti Rukhbei”, Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) and Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) have taken various initiatives to observe the day.
ACC and Reporters Against Corruption (RAC), a journalists’ organisation, brought out a procession jointly at 9:00am.
ACC Commissioner Sahabuddin Chuppu was present as chief guest.
A cultural programme will be held at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy following a discussion meeting. Former Chief Justice ABM Khairul Haque will be present here.
TIB will give Investigative Journalism Prize 2014 at Deik Galary in Dhanmandi in city around 10:00am. It also has organised a discussion meeting titled “Recent Backdrops of Journalism in Bangladesh”.
Dr Gowher Rizvi, international affairs adviser to prime minister, will be present here.
A weeklong anti corruption cartoon show will be inaugurated at the same place at 4:00pm.
Sweden Ambassador to Bangladesh Johan Frisell and Denmark Ambassador Hanne Fugl Eskjær will be rpesent as guests in the cartoon show that will be presided over by Advocate Sultana Kamal, the TIB trustee board chairperson.
Besides, various programmes including cartoon and photo exhibitions, info fair, discussion meeting, cultural programmes and films and documentaries based on liberation war will be showed across the country to observe the day.
