DHAKA: A total of 181 people were killed and some 8,752 injured in political violence from January to November of this year.

Coordinator of Networking and Mobilization Division of Sushashoner Jonno Pracharavijan (SUPRO) (Campaign for Good Governance) Dil Afroz Duti made the disclosure in a press conference organized on the occasion of Human Rights Day at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU).

In a written statement she alleged human rights is being breached at every sphere in country now adding that restlessness is rampant in peace, security, democracy, gender parity and children and women trafficking.

He added: “Some 527 women were victims of different types of sexual harassment. Among them 54 were killed.”

Claiming that Bangladesh is being known as one of the source countries of children and women trafficking, Dil Afroz Duti termed this as a very shameful and ignominious matter for the country.

Despite taking various government and non-government measures to stop trafficking, around three lakhs men and women were trafficked from the country in the last 10 years due to slack in implementing those, she claimed.

She also proposed some recommendations in the conference suggested by SUPRO including put a stop to political violence, amending principles that restricts people from giving their opinion, ensure security of the lives and properties of minority communities.

SUPRO also recommended bringing those people under trial who have been opting violent measures against women, imparting special training to border guards to stop trafficking, making human rights commission as independent and stronger, ensuring rigorous implementation of law in Hindu marriage and enacting Hindu Succession Act.

SUPRO director Alison Subrata Baroi, member Sharifa Khatun, country programme manager of Saferworld Bivas Chakrabarty were among others present in the conference.
