GAZIPUR: Two people were killed in separate road accidents in Sadar upazila and Tongi area of the district on Wednesday.

In Tongi, a van driver, Sirajul Haque, 40, was severely injured as a rashly driven truck crushed into a goods-laden van as its driver lost control over the steering in Shahid Ahsan Ullah Master Flyover area at noon.

Locals rushed Sirajul to the Tongi Government Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

On informed, Tongi Model Thana police rushed to the spot and detained the truck driver, however, the helper managed to flee the scene.

In Gazipur Sadar, an old pedestrian was killed when a truck hit him on Sylhet-Dhaka Highway in Pubail area of the upazila.

Two of the injured were taken to the Tongi Government Hospital.

Officer-in-Charge M Ismail Hossain of Tongi Model Thana confirmed the matter.
