5 die, 25 hurt falling off train in Joypurhat

JOYPURHAT: At least five people were killed and 25 others injured after falling off the roof of an oil tanker train at Shimultoli area under Panchbibi upazila on Thursday afternoon.

Of the deceased, three were identified as night guard of Joypurhat Collectorate School Azhar Ali, Sadikul, hailed from Sadar upazila and Jewel Hossain, hailed from Khanjanpur village of Joypurhat municipality.

Quoting the injured, Joypurhat Police Super Abul Kalam Siddique Saud told banglanews that the hose pipe of the train disjointed suddenly in Shimultoli area around 4.30pm.

The passengers who were on the roof of the train lost their control due to sudden decrease of speed and fell off on the rail line, he added.

He further said one of the passengers was killed on the spot the under the wheels of the train and scores injured.

The injured were rushed to Joypurhat Modern Hospital where three others succumbed to their injuries under treatment, Abul Kalam Siddique Saud added.
