DHAKA: The government is going to introduce a new directorate styled ‘Telecommunications’ aiming to ensure smooth functioning of the vital sector.

In a meeting with Prime Minister Shiekh Hasina in the chair at the secretariat, the cabinet Monday morning approved the proposal for opening the new directorate.

Posts and Telecommunications Division will supervise the directorate, meeting sources said.

The cabinet, however, did not approve the draft of Government Corporation (Management and Coordination) Act-2015 in the meeting.

Six ministers concerned were asked to review the necessity of this law, sources added.
