DHAKA: A human chain was formed in front of the National Press Club Saturday demanding unconditional release of acting editor of the daily Amar Desh Mahmudur Rahman.

The speakers at the human chain organized by Engineers’ Association of Bangladesh (EAB) blamed the government for “curbing people’s democratic rights through preventing expression of opinion”.

They asked the government to stop such activities. Otherwise, they warned, “the government will have to pay high price”.

The human-chain gathering, lasting an hour, was addressed, among others, by EAB leader Engineer A N H Akhter Hossain, Dr. Z M Zahid Hossain and coordinator of Shikhak Karmachari Oikya Jote Selim Bhuyian.
