Road mishap kills college teacher in Gazipur

GAZIPUR: A college teacher was killed and 14 other people were injured in a head–on collision between a peak-up van and a human hauler on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway in  South Salna area on Saturday morning.

The deceased was identified as Abdul Karim,42, Associate Professor of History Department at  Bhawal Mirzapur College.

Police source said among the injured Jasim Uddin,32, Sohel ,30, Sanowar ,22, Robin,13, Atiar Rahman,50, Liton,22, and Delwar Hossain,22, were rushed into Gazipur Sadar Hospital.

Highway police Sergeant Mostafizur Rahman said a  Mirzapur-bound human hauler and the pick-up van collided head-on, killing Karim on the spot and injuring 14 others.

The death of the teacher sparked off strong protest as the agitated students of the college blockaded the busy Dhaka-Mymensingh  highway, disrupting communication for half-an hour.
