DHAKA: At least 122 leaders and activists of 20-party alliance were detained during hartal hours countrywide till 10:00am Monday.

Ten BNP men were detained at capital’s Naya Paltan, Azimpur and New Market areas, 38 in Gazipur, 26 in Comilla, 8 in Chandpur, 14 in Manikganj, 8 in Feni, 8 in Joypurhat and 10 BNP-Jamaat men were detained in Noakhali.

The countrywide daylong hartal, called by the BNP-led 20-party alliance, is underway amid stray incidents of blasts, picketing.

The alliance is observing the shutdown protesting the restrictions on Gazipur rally where BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia was scheduled to address and demanding immediate release of BNP standing committee member Goyeshwar Chandra Roy.
