4 women killed in Comillia road mishap

COMILLA: Four women were killed and three others injured in a road mishap in Baresshwar area under Burichang upazila of the district early Tuesday.

The deceased were Salama Akter, 30, wife of Mizanur Rahman, Monowara Begumm 45, wife of Abdur Razzak, Rasheda Begum, 55, wife of late Nurul Islam, and Jahanara Begum, 65, wife of late Sekender Ali Bhuyan. All were hailed from Kunnumati area of the upazila.

The accident took place after a truck ran over a group of people in the area on Monday late night on their way home after attending a waj mahfil, leaving seven people including three women.

The injured were taken to the Upazila Health Complex where four women succumbed to their injuries early Tuesday.

Of the injured, two were shifted to Comilla Medical College and Hospital while one was referred to Dhaka for better treatment.

Burichang Thana Officer-In-Charge Zhirul Islam told banglanews that they have heard about the mishap and were trying to seize the truck.
