RAJSHAHI: The Central Committee of Bangladesh Chhatra League slapped a moratorium on its Rajshahi University unit on Sunday evening following a bloody factional clash Saturday that left at least 10 students wounded.

“All activities of the Rajshahi University unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League are suspended,” says an announcement from Dhaka, when the BCL rivals now locked into legal battles suing each other.

Earlier, police arrested Mehedi and Sharif of the president group Sunday when they were in the hospital. Police were also searching for President Awal Kabir Joy.

Officer-in-charge of Motihar thana Abul Khayer confirmed the arrests.

Mehedi Hasan on behalf of President Awal Kabir Joy filed a case against GS and nine other activists of Chhatra League on Sunday morning while Abdul Aziz of the secretary group sued the president and 21 others activists.

Police produced General Secretary of the RU unit Majedul Islam before Rajshahi Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Sunday noon. The court sent him to jail.

Additional police forces were deployed to avert further trouble on the campus.

Police raided student dormitories for outsiders and firearms on Saturday night, but the operation proved futile.
