7 vehicles torched in 5 dists

DHAKA: The blockaders torched five trucks and a bus in four districts of the country on Saturday night, following 20-party alliance’s nationwide road-rail-waterway indefinite blockade.

Our Sylhet correspondent said that some blockaders set fire to a stone laden truck in South Surma area of Sylhet on Dhaka-Sylhet highway around 10:45pm.

Locals doused the flame immediately after the incident.

South Surma Thana Officer-in-Charge Khayrul Fazal confirmed the matter to banglanews.

On the other hand, two potato laden trucks were torched by the blockaders in Mahipur Bazar and Bhabanipur areas under Sherpur upazila of Bogra district around 9:30pm.

Fire fighters rushed to the spot and doused the fire.

Sub-Inspector (SI) of Sherpur Thana Jahidul Islam confirmed the matter to banglanews.

In Joypurhat, a passenger bus was torched by miscreants in the district town at 9:00pm and a truck was also set on fire in Komorgram-Baniapara area of the district around 9:30pm.

Joypurhat Sadar Thana Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdur Rashid and OC of Detective Branch (DB) police Mahfuzar Rahman confirmed the matters to banglanews.

Besides, a rice-laden truck was torched by the blockaders in Elenga area under Kalihati upazila of Tangail district around 8:45pm, leaving the truck driver and helper injured.

On information, fire fighters rushed to the spot and doused the fire.

Elenga Highway Police outpost sergeant Kamruzzaman Raaz confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Our Comilla correspondent reported that a truck was torched as some miscreants hurled petrol bomb aiming at the truck in Paranpur area under Barura upazila of Comilla on early Sunday.

Barura Thana Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nasir Uddin Mridha confirmed the matter to banglanews.
