Curfew extended in Rangamati

RANGAMATI: The curfew declared in district town has been extended till further notice as tension mounting centering clashes between Bangalee settlers and indigenous people here.

Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Thana Monu Sohel Imtiaz confirmed the matter to banglanews saying earlier the curfew was imposed till 8:00am Monday, but administration extended the time apprehending untoward situation.

On Sunday evening, local administration imposed the curfew and publicised it through loudspeakers asking people to return to their homes by 7:30pm due to volatile condition.

The tensed situation began on Saturday (January 10) after indigenous students’ organization Pahari Chhatra Parishad (PCP) locked into clash Chhatra League and Jubo League activists during a blockade enforced by the PCP to protest the inauguration of a medical college in Rangamati.
