RANGAMATI: Local administration on Monday extended the duration of curfew till 7:00am of Tuesday.
The decision was taken Monday afternoon as tension mounts following clashes between Bangali settlers and ethnic communities.
Rangamati assistant superintendent of police (ASP) Abul Kalam Azad said that the duration of curfew has been extended to avoid any untoward situation.
However, the curfew was imposed Sunday evening in a volatile political situation.
The tension was created on January 10 as an organization of ethnic students called ‘Pahari Chhatra Parishad’ (PCP) locked into clashes with Chhatra League and Jubo League activists during a blockade enforced by the PCP demanding the postponement of academic activities of newly established Rangamati Medical College.
