JHALOKATHI: One of the convicted inmates, Monir Hossain, has escaped from the district jail on Friday morning.

Sources said that Monir, 40, who was serving a 3-year punishment on charge of stealing, escaped by climbing down a pipe of the jail crossing the residence of jail superintendent around 6:15am.

Superintendent of Jhalakathi Jail Mohammad Shariful Islam confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Law enforcers are trying to nab Monir. The authorities would conduct an investigation of how the prisoner managed to flee from the jail, he added.
