Ambulance driver killed in Comilla road crash

CHANDINA, COMILLA: An ambulance driver was killed and five others were injured in an accident in Chandina area on Chittagong-Dhaka highway on Saturday morning.

The deceased was identified as Ali Akbar, 40, hailed from Jatrabari of Dhaka.

Sources said a rashly driven covered van collided head-on with the ambulance at Dotola intersection in the upazila around 10:30am, leaving the ambulance driver dead on the spot and five others, who were inside the ambulance, injured.

The injured are Nazim, 38, the helper of the ambulance, hailed from Jatrabari of the capital, Nurul Karim, 60, of Feni’s Mahipal, her daughter Mukta, 28 and two grandchildren Tajmir, 8 and Taspia, 5.

The passengers, according to sources, were going to Dhaka from Feni with the ambulance.

Elliotganj police camp in-charge Sub-Inspector (SI) Tapan Kumar said that the injured were rushed to Chandina Upazila Health Complex.
