Anik to go to Mumbai for treatment

DHAKA: Secondary School Certificate (SSC) candidate Minhajul Islam Anik, whose eyes sustained critical injury in a bomb blast during the ongoing countrywide blockade enforced by BNP, is set to go to India for better treatment.

Anik left the country Wednesday afternoon for Sankara Nethralaya Eye Hospital in Chennai of India as ‎Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina took the responsibility of his better treatment.

On January 5, SSC candidate Anik, who was returning from a private tutor’s home, sustained eye injuries as miscreants hurled cocktails at Khejur Chattar in Feni Sadar around 4:30pm.

The blast took away his vision of right eye and left eye’s vision was dim.

Another student Shahriar Hridoy, 16, also sustained injuries in that blast.

Anik was first admitted to Feni Adhunik Sadar Hospital from where he was transferred to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.

Later, he was taken to National Institute of Ophthalmology & Hospital.

Anik father Mizanur Rahman met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who handed over a cheque of Tk 500,000 for Anik’s treatment.

The premier also supervised the task of preparing Anik’s passport.
