‘BNP leaders could have talked to me’

DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina felt embarrassed as she had to return while going to console BNP chief Khaleda Zia at the demise of her younger son Arafat Rahman Koko.

In a cabinet meeting Monday, PM made the remark when Mujibul Haq Chunnu said whole country praised PM for her move.

Sheikh Hasina said, “I went there after contacting BNP official, but found the gates of Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan Office locked.”

The premier also said, “I went there to express sympathy like another mother, but BNP officials showed no respect. We saw there many BNP senior leaders, who could have talked to me as Khaleda Zia was sleeping.”

On January 24, PM Hasina went to BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office to offer her sympathies at the death of her son Koko but she failed to enter the office as the gate was locked from inside and was told Khaleda was sleeping as doctor pushed injection.
