JESSORE: A robber was killed and an additional superintendent of police was injured in a gunfight between law enforcers and robbers in Moniramur upazila of the district in the wee hours of Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Mahabur, 30, son of one Motleb Ali, hailed from Shyamnagar village of the upazila.

Injured additional SP Ariful Haque was treated at 250-bed General Hospital of Jessore.

District police spokesperson assistant superintendent of police (ASP) Begum Reshma Sharmin told banglanews that they have increased patrolling on Jessore-Satkhira road to aver untoward situation.

A gang of robbers barricaded the road and opened fire to them when additional SP Ariful Haque along with other police personnel went to patrol the area around 4:00am.

Police also opened fire to them, leaving robber Mahabur dead on the spot and additional SP Ariful Haque injured.

Officer-in-Charge of Molla Khabir Uddin said they recovered the body and sent to Jessore 250 General Hospital for autopsy.
