DNCC markets to be formalin free

DHAKA: Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has taken initiatives to make its 15 markets formalin free.

The corporation informed the matter through a press release on Thursday.

The decision came after an internal meeting held at DNCC building on Wednesday.  

The release said booths will be set up in the markets to measure the amount of formalin used in the goods. Later, the numbers of booths would be increased in phases following the importance and area of the market.

DNCC administrator Dr Rakhal Chandra Barman, directed the corporation officials to collect necessary machineries to examine the presence of formalin in foods.

A decision of appointing employees for the booths and arranging training for them had also made in the meeting.

Legal measures will also be taken against the traders and enterprises if formalin is found in their food stuffs.

A mobile court will remain active to supervise the market.

DNCC secretary M Abu Sayed Shek, chief health officer Brigadier General AKM Masood Ahsan, chief engineer Brigadier General M Gazi Firoz and chief revenue officer M Mamtaz Uddin, among others, were present at the meeting.
