DHAKA: Authorities concerned have deployed 205 platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members across the country including the city in aid of the police force to contain violence during the ongoing blockade enforced by the BNP-led 20-party alliance.

Moreover, according to sources, 70 platoons BGB members have been kept on standby for emergency.

Confirming the matter, BGB public relations officer (PRO) Mohsin Reza said that the units have already started their work from early Friday.

“Among the deployed platoons, 110 teams are monitoring safety on roads and highways while rests are patrolling at places across the country,” he added. “Six platoons are working in the capital to ensure safety of lives and properties of city dwellers.”

However, a platoon is the paramilitary unit typically composed of more than two squads/sections. Platoon organization varies depending on the country and the branch, but typically a platoon consists of 35 soldiers in Bangladesh.
