DHAKA: Four policemen, including a Sub-Inspector (SI), were detained from city’s Shahbagh area early Friday after hijacking a passerby.

The detainees include Pallabi Thana SI Ananda, two constables of the same police station and a driver of that thana.

Sources told banglanews that they were detained around 1:30am from Shahbagh intersection of the capital after looting Tk 20,000 from Sona Miah, hailed from Mirpur.

The plain dressed team of police, who were patrolling the city on Thursday night, detained Sona Miah from Mirpur’s Kalyanpur area, sources added. The cops, at that time, took away Tk 20,000 from the passerby after assaulting him.

According to sources, the Pallabi Thana police team, then, forced the victim to get down from the vehicle in Shahbagh area.

He, however, started screaming after getting down from the police car, said the witnesses. Locals, following the matter, detained the team and informed Shahbagh Thana. They took the patrol team, along with SI Ananda, to the police station.

Nevertheless, Shahbagh Thana Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sirajul Islam, confirming the matter, said that he has also been informed about the matter.

Shahbagh Thana OC, moreover, said in the morning that he will investigate the matter after going to station.
