DHAKA: Customs authorities held a Kuwait Airlines passenger Shafiqul Islam with nine gold bars weighing one kilogram at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the city on Sunday noon.

Confirming the matter, airport customs joint commissioner Kazi Mohammad Ziauddin told banglanews that Shafiqul was held on suspicion when he was passing the green channel.

He added that a passenger of Kuwait Airlines (KU-281) Shariful Islam was passing the airport’s green channel with his luggage.

The customs people on suspicion held him and seized nine bars of gold from his pockets. The gold bars weighing one kilogram is priced about 60 lakh, he added.

A case has been filed against Shafiqul with Airport Thana in this connection.
