GAIBANDHA: Six people, including two children, were killed and 29 suffered burns when suspected blockaders hurled petrol bomb at a passenger bus in Tulshighat area on Gaibandha-Polashbari road on Friday night.
Details of the deceased and the injured could not be known yet.
Gaibandha Sadar Adhunik Hospital residential Medical Officer (RMO) Abu Hanif confirmed the deaths to banglanews.
Witnesses said a bus of Napu Enterprise, carrying 40 passengers, was going to Dhaka from Panchpir area of Sundarganj upazila.
On arrival at Tulshighat around 10:45pm, miscreants hurled petrol bomb at the bus, leaving four people, including a child, dead on the spot and 30 others badly burnt.
Two others, including another child, succumbed to injuries at Rangpur Medical College and Hospital (RMCH).
RMO Abu Hanif feared that death toll may rise. Of the injured, 17 are given treatment at the burn unit of RMCH and eight others at the district Sadar Hospital, Hanif said.
At RMCH, conditions of six patients are critical as 70 percent of their bodies have been burnt. Four of them also sustained critical injuries to their respiratory organs.
District superintendent of police confirmed the arson attack to banglanews.
