Youth shot dead in Jatrabari

DHAKA: A youth was shot dead early Monday while he was fleeing the spot throwing cocktail at DB police patrol car at Jatrabari in the city.

The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.

Sources told banglanews that the incident took place at Kather Pool area of Jatrabari amid the second day of 72-hour nationwide hartal called by BNP and its allies, coupled with indefinite blockade that rolls into 35th day.

Earlier on January 24, at least 29 passengers, in which one succumbed to his injuries at hospital, suffered burns in a petrol bomb attack on a city bus in that area.

Jatrabari Thana Sub-Inspector Humayun, however, confirming the matter, said that the 25-year-old sustained bullet injuries while trying to flee the spot hurling a cocktail at patrol car.

The man was later declared dead on arrival at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), he added.
