SYLHET: At least 32 people including 10 children died at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital (SOMCH) in the last 24-hour.
Of the deceased children, four were newborn and six were from six months to seven years of age.
Victims’ relatives alleged that they died due to wrong treatment.
MIS section officer of the hospital Saiful Malek Khan confirmed the matter to banglanews in the morning.
Deputy Director of the hospital Dr Abdus Salam, however, rejected the allegation made by victims’ relatives saying that of the 10 children, six died due to birth complexities, two for malnutrition related diseases, one in pneumonia and one in cold related disease.
A three-member probe committee led by head of medicine department Professor Ismail Patwari was formed in this connection.
Two other members of the committee are head of Paediatrics Department Professor Dr. Md. Manajjir Ali, and residential physician Dr Ranjar Kumar Roy.
The probe committee was asked to submit its findings within seven working days.
Dr Abdus Salam also said they would take appropriate steps if anyone is found guilty for the deaths.
