46 BNP-Jamaat men held in 3 districts

DHAKA: At least 46 leaders and activists were detained in nightlong drives conducted by law enforcers in three districts.

Banglanews correspondents report from their respective districts on Tuesday.

Rangpur: Ten activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student front Islami Chhatra Shibir and 3 from BNP were arrested in accusation of violence in the district.

Confirming the matter to banglanews, Rangpur detective police official Shariful Islam said that they have sent the arrestees to the jail after producing them before the court.

Dinajpur: Police held 17 leaders and activists of BNP and its key ally Jamaat in several drives aiming to avert any violence the district.

District police control room on-duty constable Hafizur Rahman confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Among the detainees 11 are BNP activists and six of Jamaat-Shibir, he added.

Moreover, additional law enforcers have been deployed at the strategic points of the district to thwart any untoward situation.

Chittagong: At least 16 leaders and activists of BNP and Jamaat were nabbed from different parts of the district.

Confirming the matter to banglanews, additional police super (special branch) Mohammad Naimul Hasan said that they conducted drives in Hathazari, Sitakunda, Boalkhali, Satkania and Lohagara thanas of the district and nabbed 16.

Drives will be continued to stop violence across the district, he added.
