This too shall pass: China envoy

DHAKA: The newly-appointed Chinese ambassador to Bangladesh Ma Mingqiang hoped that the prevailing political situation of the country will become normal soon.

“Life will go on here as earlier soon,” he told reporters Sunday noon at secretariat in the capital after meeting with foreign minister AH Mahmood Ali.

However, it was his first courtesy call to the ministry of foreign affairs after submitting credentials as the representative of the People’s Republic of China to Bangladesh President M Abdul Hamid on February 3, 2015.

On the other hand, Mahmood Ali also expressed his hope that the bilateral ties between the two countries would further enhance during the tenure of the new Chinese envoy in here.

According to the sources, the Bangladesh foreign minister informed Mingqiang about the ongoing blockade and the acts of violence and arson attacks on common people by BNP-Jamaat alliance, noting that this cannot be the language of democracy.

The Chinese ambassador, in response, mentioned that China likes to see peace and smooth development of Bangladesh.

Mingqiang also informed that he had been asked by Chinese foreign minister to follow up major economic cooperation projects in Bangladesh under Chinese Assistance, and underscored that China would remain as an active development partner of Bangladesh in the coming days.

He also underscored that Bangladesh Foreign Minister should visit China in near future to further bolster the relations.

Nevertheless, Mahmood Ali assured the Chinese ambassador for all possible cooperation from the Government during his tour of duty in Dhaka.
