DHAKA: A team of Rapid Action Battalion on early Friday arrested five drug peddlers alongwith a firearm and Yaba tablets from different areas in the capital.

The arrested were identified as Sahadat Hossain Munna alias Joy, 29, Manjur Hossain, 25, Salimuddin Salim, 24, Jamal Hossain Ripon, 28 and Ahsan Md. Kamal alias Sani, 24.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of Rab-4, led by Lt Commander Arifur Rahman, conducted drives in Mohakhali, Banani, Gulshan, Lalmatia and Mohammadpur areas at early hours and arrested five drug peddlers.

They also recovered 106 pieces of yaba tablet, Tk 28,400 in cash, two motorcycles, eight mobile phone sets, one 7.54mm pistol, two magazines and three bullets.

Senior Assistant Director of Rab-4 Flight Lieutenant Md. Khairul Mamun told journalists the arrested, during interrogation, confessed that they have engaged with drug business for long.

Security measures have been strengthened in the capital for the month of Ramadan so that people can move without any fear, Khairul Mamun added.
