RUPGANJ, NARAYANGANJ: At least eight people were burned when a devastating fire broke out at Nowab Spinning Mills Limited in Jatramuda area under Ruphanj upazila early Thursday.
Lion BM Atikur Ramna, director of the spinning mills, told banglanews that fire caught a site of the mill around 2:00am; soon it engulfed the entire factory.
At least 10 workers sustained burns as some tried to douse the flame and several other were inured while escaping the fire.
The workers were on duty when the fire broke out, said factory worker Alamgir Hossain.
On information, four units of Fire Service and Civil Defense (FDCS) rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after two hours of hectic effort.
The injured were admitted at the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.
District FSCD deputy director Mamtaj Uddin Ahmed the fire might have been originated from gas meter of the factory.
The fire caused an estimated damage of Tk 50 crore as huge amount of yarn, cotton, machineries were burnt, claimed the factory authorities.
