MYMENSINGH: A terrorist was killed and four policemen sustained injuries in a gunfight in Sohagi area under Iswarganj upazila of the district on Wednesday night.
The deceased was identified as Rafiqul Islam Khokon alias Khokon Police, 36 while the injured includes Iswarganj Thana Officer-In-Charge (OC) Akaruzaman.
Police raided the area and arrested Khokhon at night. Moments later, he escaped police custody and began firing on the lawpersons there. Khokhon’s associates also joined him, exploding cocktails that left four policeman inured. Police retaliated with gunshots, leaving Khokon bullet-hit.
He succumbed to his injuries on his way to hospital. The injured policemen were admitted at Upazila Health Complex.
Police also recovered a foreign-made pistol, two rounds of bullets and four cocktails from Khokon’s possession.
Confirming the matter to banglanews, OC Akaruzaman said that Khokon was accused in six different cases including arms and drugs. He was top listed by police in the upazila.
Many years ago, Khokon was sacked from Bangladesh Police after he had been caught with drugs. Since then, he involved in drugs dealings and gained notoriety as Kokhon Police, added the OC.
