DHAKA: Death row convict and war criminal Jamaat-e-Islami assistant secretary general Kamaruzzaman will file review petition against the death sentence handed down by the Appellate Division on Wednesday.

Kamaruzzaman’s lawyer Advocate Khandaker Mahbub Hossain made the disclosure while talking to journalists at Supreme Court Bar Association auditorium as the International Crimes Tribunal issued death warrant at Dhaka Central Jail on Thursday.

Khandaker Mahbub further said that the verdict cannot be executed till the settlement of review petition.

Criticizing the Attorney General Mahbubey Alam, he said how the highest legal officer of the state says so when the Appellate Division allocated 15 days to the convict for filing review petition.

He also said the convict can file review petition within 15 days of receiving an attested copy of the full verdict.

Defense lawyer Barrister Tajul Islam and Shishir M Monir also were present in the briefing.

Earlier at 1:00pm Thursday, the death warrant issued by ICT against Kamaruzzaman reached to Dhaka Central Jail authorities.
