India frees 111 Bangladeshi fishermen

SATKHIRA: A total of 111 Bangladeshi fishermen were freed by Indian police on Thursday after they served in Indian jail for a long time.

Earlier, Indian law enforcers nabbed them with five trawlers for intruding their territorial waters during fishing.

Indian police handed over the fishermen to Shymnagar Thana police of Bangladesh along Satkhira frontier waterway around 2:45pm in the presence of Abu Syed Monjur Alam, Shymnagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Khaled Bin Yusuf, BGB-34 Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad and others, Aminul Islam, the Officer-in-Charge of the thana.

The Bangladeshi law enforcers and officials received the fishermen along with five trawlers.

The fishermen were held in different times and sent them to jail for their alleged intrusion into the water territory of India while fishing, Shymnagar Thana OC Aminul Islam said.

The fishermen will return their home after completion the legal paper works, the OC added.
