DHAKA: New Bangladesh Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Golam Moshi Saturday urged Bangladeshi expatriates to uphold their country’s image in the Kingdom by their deeds.

The envoy, who took charge of the Riyadh mission on Tuesday, was speaking at the commemoration of the Amar Ekushey and International Mother Language Day at the embassy premises.

There are some 1.7 million Bangladeshis residing in the Kingdom in various sectors. The two countries recently the Kingdom and signed a labor agreement in Dhaka for the recruitment of more Bangladeshi workers in the KSA.

Moshi underlined the need for renewing the commitment and reinforcing concerted efforts for the socioeconomic development of Bangladesh. He praised his countrymen for their invaluable services to their home country.

Moshi paid sincere tributes and honor to the language movement martyrs who made supreme sacrifices in their service to the country. He paid tribute to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, father of the nation, and highlighted his legendary leadership during the language movement.

The embassy commemorated the two events at the chancery premises in a befitting manner.

The day’s program included recitation from the Holy Qur’an, ceremonial hoisting of the national flag at half-mast by the ambassador and reading the messages of the country’s president, prime minister, foreign minister and the minister of state for foreign affairs.

The embassy organized a cultural program where the students and teachers of both Bangla and English sections of Bangladesh International Schools in Riyadh sang patriotic songs. Besides, a poetry recitation program was also organized in which members of the expatriate community took part to commemorate the day.

All officers and staff members of the diplomatic mission, as well as members of the community, teachers and students attended the ceremony.
