DHAKA: Bus service between Dhaka and India’s Guwahati via Sylhet and Shillong will be flagged off on May 2.
The decision came from an inter-ministerial meeting held at the secretariat in city on Sunday with road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader in the chair.
Initially, 30seater air-conditioned buses will carry the passengers on the 496km route, sources added.
Later, according to an attendee of the meeting, the passenger capacity of those buses will be increased if demand arises.
Moreover, WiFi and Tracking System will also remain on these buses.
Bangladesh presently has two more regular bus services with neighboring India, one between Kolkata and Dhaka and the other between Agartala and Dhaka.
Earlier, the trial run of Guwahati-Dhaka bus service via Shillong in Meghalaya was flagged off on December 10 last year.
Guwahati and Shillong also became the third and fourth Indian state capitals to be connected to Dhaka through the bus service. The 466-km Kolkata-Dhaka service was launched in June 1999.
