DHAKA: ‘Shaheed Dibas’ as well as International Mother Language Day was marked with due solemnity and fervor in Tashkent on February 21.
The day’s program began with ceremonial lowering the national flag at half mast in the chancery by Bangladesh ambassador to Uzbekistan Mosud Mannan in presence of the members of the Bangladesh community, mission officials and local Uzbek nationals.
A discussion was held after the ceremony. The meeting began with one minute silence in honor of the language movement martyrs and all freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the country, a press release said.
Messages, received from Bangladesh President, Prime Minister and foreign minister on this occasion, were read out by the ambassador and the counselor.
In their speeches, members of the Bangladesh community spoke on the significance of the day. They also paid tributes to the memory of the martyrs.
Earlier on 20th February, Bangladesh embassy organized a poetry evening at Bangladesh House on glorious ‘Shaheed Dibas’ and International Mother Language Day.
Ambassadors and representatives of the UN and international organizations in Tashkent and National Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan for UNESCO took part in the event.
A publication compiling all the pieces of poetries in different languages was brought out on this occasion.
