MAGURA: A police official was killed as a rashly driven truck rammed him in Ichhakhada Bazar area under Sadar upazila of the district on Monday noon.

The deceased was identified as Munshi M Mashiur Rahman, 48, Sub-Inspector (SI), also in-charge of Hajipur police outpost, hailed from Hatgopalpur of Jhenidah district.

Officer-in-charge (OC) Jahangir Alam of Magura Sadar Thana told banglanews that a speedy driven bricks-laden truck ran over the police officer in the area while he was crossing road around 12:00 noon, leaving him injured critically.

He succumbed to his injuries on way to Magura Sadar Hospital. The law enforcers held the truck driver and also seized the truck.

A case was filed in this connection, the OC added.

Magura Superintendent of Police (SP) Jahedul Kabir told banglanews that the body was taken to the Magura Police Line and would be handed over to the family after Namaz-e-Janaza.

The family of the deceased would be provided Tk 500,000 as he died on duty, he added.
