DHAKA: The Shaheed Dibash and the International Mother Language Day 2015 was observed by Bangladesh Missions abroad with due solemnity.
External Publicity Wing of Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a press release regarding the matter on Monday.
“The Day’s programmes started in the morning with hoisting of the national flag at half-mast with the national anthem followed by recitation from the holy Qur’an and holy books of other religions,” the release added.
The release further said one minute’s silence was observed in memory of the martyrs of the Language Movement in February 21 of 1952.
It also said, “Special prayers were conducted seeking salvation of the departed souls of the martyrs and for the prosperity of Bangladesh and well being of its citizens.
Messages of the President, the Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and State Minister for Foreign Affairs were read out.
Several members of the community participated in the discussion enthusiastically and highlighted the importance of the day and its significance in the history of liberation of Bangladesh and paid their homage to the martyrs.
The discussion meetings were followed by cultural programmes and performed by the Embassy officials and others. Posters on the day were exhibited and documentary films were screened.”
